Grain LNG Summary

National Grid Grain LNG is delighted to confirm that as of 06:00 on 30th December 2008 the first expansion of the Isle of Grain LNG Importation facility has commenced commercial operations, the facility is therefore now available for its new and existing customers to berth and unload LNG vessels and to nominate gas flows into the downstream networks.
This brings to a successful conclusion a significant period of construction and commissioning activity at the facility which now means that the Isle of Grain facility, one of the largest LNG facilities in the world and the only LNG importation facility currently flowing into the UK, has the capacity to export around 12% of UK demand.
Whilst this historic achievement is a landmark in the supply diversity to the UK it is only the first of two major expansions of the facility with the second already under construction and currently due to be live in winter 2010/11.
With the commencement of commercial operations at the expanded facility the flow data provided from this main page will now include the additional NTS entry point as a separate item. It is important to note that the plant now operates as one terminal and as such gas flows into specific entry points and/or feeders are not attributable to specific customers. The terminal has the flexibility to flow any customer's gas to any feeder at any given time.
